Employers quote salaries before tax, often as a cost-to-company package. Ask what the gross salary is, and check it against this figure.
How it works
Take-home pay is gross salary less PAYE, UIF and your own deductions. This calculator runs that the other way: it finds the gross salary whose take-home matches the amount you want, using the same 2026/27 SARS tables, age rebates and medical tax credits as the take-home pay calculator.
Each extra rand of take-home costs more than a rand of gross, because PAYE takes your marginal rate from every rand you add. UIF stops rising once your salary passes R 17 712 a month.
Gross salary or cost to company?
If an offer is a cost-to-company (CTC) package, the employer's retirement and medical aid contributions come out of it before your gross salary. Use the cost-to-company calculator to see what a package pays.
